Next year in International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009), Indonesia will take part in this event. Many plans has been made and several of them are parts of IYA2009 cornerstone project. Several preparations have been made since mid 2008 such as astroarcheology seminar on May 15th, 2008. The second seminars of Astronomy in Indonesian Culture held in 2nd Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiads Exhibitions on 25th August 2008 and the other one will be held next year during IYA2009.
In the 2nd IOAA exhibitions, Indonesia node will announce Indonesia Dark Skies Association with aims to build awareness of dark skies among public. During IYA2009, Indonesia UNAWE will also take part as one of the cornerstones. Developing Astronomy Globally (DAG), Cosmic Diary and Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP) are cornerstones project that will take part in Indonesia.
Indonesia node will take part in 100 hours astronomy and distribute 27 telescopes to 27 schools in different provinces with workshops for teachers and students. This is also part of astronomy olympiads training in Indonesia. Aside from that, Bosscha Observatory will hold astrocamp for teachers and students. Another special project of IYA2009, The World at Night (TWAN) will also held in Indonesia net year. It is an international project to create and exhibit a collection of stunning photographs of the world’s most beautiful and historic sites against a nighttime backdrop of stars, planets and celestial events. Indonesia has been chosen to make an exhibit next year. Not just that, TWAN has education purpose as well to teach beginner how to make sky photography and create TWAN-style images with modest equipment.
